Finished.

It has been almost 2 months since Sparky left us. And it took me that amount of time to finish Marley and Me. I thought I should finish what I bought. Well, I had actually bought the book almost 2 years back. It was intended as a birthday gift but in the end I decided otherwise. The book was lent to Ariane who read it first. I did read a few pages before lending it to her, for fearing the tears. Today, however, I finished it. Needless to say, memories of Sparky came fresh again.

I have always been a denial person. Reading the last few chapters of Marley and Me was pretty hard to swallow. Sparky left in almost the same fashion. First operation, breast cancer - successful. Cancer came back but in the lymph nodes. Didn't operate. She battled the cancer but still she was too weak to fight it further.

Now I have Cody. And I get reminded of how terrible Cody is. Yes she's pretty much a pest at times with her annoying barkings and bites (rarely, maybe not). Still, she's a loyal friend. Cody has learnt to greet us every time we get home. Something that I have come to realize only just now. Perhaps its just her way of saying, "I'm lonely in the house. I'm so glad you're back to play with me!" After all, she did grow up with Sparky around her. So I guess it can be lonely when you're best friend is not going to be around anymore.

So, John Grogan, I am glad you had Marley; just as I had Sparky and have Cody now. And darling, we'll get that 9" beagle one day. I promise! :)
